WE CAN is a South Asian campaign to challenge and change deeply entrenched societal attitudes and practices that endorse gender discrimination and violence. The South Asia Campaign to End all Forms of Violence against Women or WE CAN was launched in 2004 in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Oxfam Novib asked Movisie to redesign this campaign for The Netherlands.
WE CAN believes that people help other people change their perceptions and practices. The campaign works through millions of Change Makers – men and women who actively encourage more positive attitudes and behaviour towards women in the communities in which they live and work. The Change Makers do so by providing alternative norms – to facilitate attitudinal change on violence against women.
The campaign encourages and supports change makers and people in general to be more conscious of and to act on their concerns in issues regarding gender discrimination and violence.
Movisie activates and facilitates these change makers through training, e-learning, informational website and a hyves-page, PR materials and events for the change makers.
